Holiday Open House Marketplace continues Dec. 7 in Mount Pleasant
MOUNT PLEASANT — As people look for gifts that are a little out of the ordinary, they should consider the Historic District of Mount Pleasant during the Christmas Open House and Marketplace this weekend.
On Saturday, Dec. 7, visitors will find the village bustling as people visit the local shops there.
Tom Haynes, president of the Historical Society of Mount Pleasant, said that in addition to the many items displayed in the gift shop at the Elizabeth House Mansion Museum there will be a variety of pottery pieces with the town’s name. The first floor of the museum will be decorated for Christmas with sale items in each room. Buckeye Local High School students will occupy the dining room with their cookie sale and hot coffee on tap for the shoppers.
Paige McElroy will have quilted gifts, table runners, homemade fudge, toffee and cookies in the living quarters of the 1804 Harris-Bone Store.
The Log House of Mount Pleasant is a gift shop/studio owned by Angela and Don Feenerty that will be open.
The 1846 Gill House owned by the Friends Church will also be open.
The house is decorated for Christmas, and guests can relax in the parlor, dine in the tearoom or browse the gift shop. Takeout is also available.
The Mount Pleasant shops won’t disappoint those looking for a piece from long ago, something vintage or something practical like Rada Cutlery and Sunflower dishcloths. The open house event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Gill House will be open earlier for coffee and later for a variety of soups, sandwiches and desserts.
The local Garden Club provides natural flora and greenery and decorates the exterior of Mount Pleasant’s historic buildings each year. The village is on the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a National Historic Landmark District of the Underground Railroad.
