MR. & MRS. GREGORY D. PYLES

Gregory David Pyles and Rebecca Jean Sliva were united in marriage at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 2 at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church in Sunbury, Ohio. Deacon, Reverend Mr. Carl Calcara officiated the double ring ceremony.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a ruched bodice full length gown accentuated with rhinestones at the shoulders and waist with a flowing chiffon skirt. Her headpiece was a full-length illusion veil and she carried a pink and white cabbage rose bouquet accented with her grandmother Pearl Strekel’s pearl ring and draped with her grandmother Helen Sliva’s handkerchief.

A reception was held at the Homestead of Radnor in Radnor, Ohio, and the dinner was prepared by All Occasions Catering & Banquet Facility. The tables were adorned with fresh daisies, carnations and baby’s breath accented by wood chargers, constructed by the bride’s father. The triple layer wedding cake was created by Toni Fillipi, and the wedding flowers and cake topper was fashioned by Vicky Bartrug, both friends of the bride. A cookie table was featured.

The bride is the daughter of Roger and Donna Sliva of Adena. The groom is the son of Judy Pyles of Sunbury.

The bride is a graduate of Buckeye Local High School, Ohio State University and received her teaching certification from Ashland. She is employed at Big Walnut Elementary in Sunbury as a second-grade teacher. The groom is a graduate of Big Walnut High School. He did two tours of duty: 2008 Kuwait/Iraq and 2012 Afghanistan both with Alpha Company STB (37th IBCT). He is a staff sergeant in the Ohio National Guard and is employed with the Department of Defense as a federal technician.

The wedding party included Krista Holyak, friend of the bride as maid of honor, and bridesmaids were Karen Sapp, cousin of the bride, Katie Hedinger, and Bridget Hildreth both friends of the couple. The flower girl was Avery Pyles, niece of the groom. Brandon Hildreth served as best man and the groomsmen were Jeff Pyles, brother of the groom, Brock Diddle and Jacob Wollett, both friends of the groom. Noah Lucas, nephew of the bride, served as ringbearer. Lectors were Matthew Sliva, brother of the bride and Sara Nagra, sister of the groom. Nancy Fillipovich, godmother of the bride, read the Prayer of the Faithful. Gina Fillipi, friend of the bride, was hairstylist for the bride and her attendants. Natalie Lucas, bride’s niece, and Aidan Furukawa, bride’s nephew handed out the programs. Photo guestbook registrar was Alyssa Lingenfelter, niece of the bride.

The couple spent their honeymoon at Beloved Playa Mujeres Resort, Cancun, Mexico. They reside in Cardington, Ohio.
