Groovy Glassware cuts ribbon in Ferry
MARTINS FERRY – A new business opened at 108 South Fourth St. this week.
Groovy Glassware is owned by Austin Arritt, a Moundsville native who started learning the glass-blowing trade last year. He said he’s always been interested in business, and saw a market for locally-made glass products.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Martins Ferry Chamber of Commerce was held on Wednesday, but Groovy Glassware has been open for two weeks.
“It’s been pretty good,” said Arritt, acknowledging that some days are slower than others. “I can’t really complain.”
Arritt’s products include pendants, paperweights, marbles, pipes and yes, even hookahs (only for tobacco use!) Some are made by Arritt himself, others by another Moundsville native and some products are imported. The shop will continue to expand and offer more variety over time. Patrons can expect to see art by Drew Gonchoff in the future.
Groovy Glassware hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Arritt also has an online Etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/arrittglass.
