WHEELING — Customers can expect the same iconic taste that has been passed down through the generations for more than 70 years when visiting the downtown Wheeling DiCarlos Pizza shop, according to Owner Toni DiCarlo.

“It’s our unique way of making pizza. We have always been the best value with the best ingredients,” DiCarlo said. “We still make everything daily or the freshest way possible. We still grate our cheese, mix our dough in every single store,” she added.

DiCarlo said the business originated with her uncle Primo DiCarlo, who opened the very first square sliced pizza shop in Steubenville in 1945 known as “DiCarlo’s Original Pizza.” She said her father, Galdo DiCarlo, eventually went into business with his brother Primo in the summer of 1949 and it was not long after the two decided to go their separate ways. Her father kept the Wheeling shop, which eventually expanded to other locations.

She said it has been that same iconic taste that has lead to the success of the business.

In addition to their popular square sliced pizza, which can be ordered plain or with more than a dozen different toppings to choose from including: pepperoni, sausage, bacon, salami, ham, steak, mushrooms, red onions, black olives, mild or green peppers, and slice tomatoes, DiCarlo’s offers an assortment of other menu items at the Main Street shop. DiCarlos said being located in the “hub” of downtown Wheeling has allowed their business to do very well over the years.

They also offer a variety of 8-inch baked sandwiches, calzones and salads. Their daily special includes your choice of a premium salad or sub with a 20 ounce drink.

Additional menu items include: pepperoni rolls, bread sticks and cheesy bread.

Located at 1311 Main Street in downtown Wheeling DiCarlo’s Pizza hours of operation are: 11a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, 1-10 p.m. Sunday. Delivery is available 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week.
