Wilson Furniture offering plenty of holiday deals

BRIDGEPORT — Wilson Furniture, 227 N. Lincoln Ave., Bridgeport, is offering deals on recliners, couches, beds and more just in time for Christmas.

Owner Jason Wilson reminds shoppers that dozens of La-Z-Boy recliners and other items are in stock and ready to be put under the tree for Christmas morning.

“The elves are doing their job over in the warehouse and in the back room in here, getting things ready,” he said.

“If you’re thinking about getting furniture for Christmas, we are open until 7 p.m. each night and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.”

The store currently features a $599 reclining sofa and reasonably priced mattresses from full size to king size. Wilson’s also can order furniture for some after-the-holidays decorating.

Wilson’s is the only La-Z-Boy Comfort studio in Eastern Ohio, he said Monday. And there are between 50 and 75 La-Z-Boy recliners in stock at the store today. Wilson’s has a broad selection from traditional recliners to power recliners.

Wilson noted said his family’s business has been in operation for 122 years.

During that time it has endured many of the same difficulties faced by Ohio Valley residents — wars, floods and now the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wilson’s — much like the people of the Ohio Valley — will get through this time, too.

“We understand and we’re sticking together,” he said.

Wilson Furniture was founded by Charles Adolph in the fall of 1898. The business changed names after his son-in-law, Howard Wilson, joined the company.

Since that time, five generations of the Wilson family have continued to keep the businesses open and thriving. According to Belmont County history, Adolph prospered because he was multilingual. His father had been a German immigrant and was a language teacher with a small college in East Liverpool, so Adolph was able to talk to customers who didn’t speak English.

The son of Howard Wilson and Adolph’s daughter, Charles Adolph Wilson, founded the Wilson Funeral Home in Dillonvale, which remains in operation today. Their son, Charles A. Wilson, Jr., served as a U.S. Congressman and owner until his death in April 2013. Charlie’s son, Jason Wilson, owns and operates the family business today.
