Business offers sky high pics
COLERAIN — Jeremy Lewis put his enthusiasm for flying drones to work with his new business, Flying Dreams Aerial Imaging Services LLC.
“I’ve always had a love of flying and a desire to do that. I wanted to be a pilot since I was small. That never really panned out, but I’ve always loved that view from the sky,” he said. “When this technology came around, it really piqued my interest. I have a real love of the outdoors and nature and capturing beautiful images. That’s kind of the start of it.”
He began his drone enthusiasm a little more than a year ago.
“I started doing this just for fun and had a lot of people asking me if they could buy my images, if they could have me come and take them for them, so I started up the company,” he said.
His business has been active since the end of August.
“The Federal Aviation Administration put some rules in place and, as of the end of August, you were allowed to take a test,” he said. “If you take that test and you pass it, you get an FAA certified license to fly.”
Lewis wasted no time in obtaining a license.
“I took that test Aug. 29, the first day that you could take it. I took that test and I passed it. That allowed me to be able to operate commercially,” he said. “You have to take it in an FAA-certified flight center. It’s a pretty big deal.”
In terms of services, Lewis specializes in aerial images with an artistic touch. Some of his photographs are for sale at the Wheeling Artisan Center.
“If you go down there, you can see some of my prints hanging on the wall,” he said. “I sell them online myself. I get a lot of people that contact me, and they want me to go to their home to … do the same thing. I do a lot of sunrise and sunset pictures. I do a lot of things like that. They frame them and hang them on their walls or give them as presents and gifts.”
Lewis’ range of services includes photography for the real estate industry.
“I’ll also do aerial videos, real estate industry videos of the homes. I also do inspections. If someone has a tower that is 100 feet in the air, rather than have someone climb it to see what’s going on, I can go up, fly around and provide video and photographs to people to show what’s going on on top of this tower.
“There are many uses. It’s really endless,” he said, noting aerial videos for commercials.
“Any kind of aerial videography or photography, that’s what I’m there for,” he said.
“Most of my photographs have a slightly artistic twist to them. They’re not just a photograph, there’s something a little different to them,” he said. “I like to bring out the colors that are there. … I take a lot of pride in trying to get the perfect shot. … Not just any shot. I want to get a shot that someone would want to display over their fireplace. Sort of a showpiece for the home. I try to provide that.”
Lewis said the potential of the technology is great. A resident of Colerain, his photography has taken him all around the Ohio Valley.
“I’ve sort of fallen into it through a lot of studying and a lot of learning. I’ve fallen into that niche and really embraced the photography side of it.”
He prefers DJI Products drones. He is in the process of upgrading his camera and drone.
