Alleged child rapist arraigned

MARTINS FERRY — A woman accused of raping a child was arraigned Wednesday and had bond set at $250,000 by Judge Christopher Berhalter in Belmont County Northern Division Court.

Morgan A. Hood, 20, of 807 Grant Ave., Martins Ferry, entered no plea during the arraignment. Her preliminary hearing was set for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 8. A public defender was assigned to her, according to information from court officials.

Hood was ordered to have no contact with the child and can only have supervised contact with other children.

Martins Ferry Police Chief John McFarland said Hood was arrested Saturday after the rape was reported to officers on Friday. Hood allegedly raped the child, who is younger than 13 years old, in early January. The child did know Hood but was not under her care, was not a relative and was not in a relationship with Hood. The rape allegedly occurred in a house in Martins Ferry, but not at Hood’s address.

“Based on the information we have, we don’t suspect there are other victims,” McFarland said this week, adding if a parent of guardian believes their child came into contact with Hood, they can come to the police station to talk with an officer.
