The two Martins Ferry students, Alyssa Kalinski and Madison Lyle, and the other seniors were presented with scholarships each worth $4,000 over a four-year period. With the addition of these recipients, the auxiliary is pledging $31,000 this academic year toward scholarships. To be eligible for the scholarship, a junior volunteer must be a high school senior with a minimum of 150 hours of volunteer service at Wheeling Hospital. They must be entering into a health-related college curriculum and maintain a 2.5 GPA. Each applicant also must complete a scholarship application including an essay on how their volunteer experience influenced their career choice. This year’s scholarship winners gave a combined total of 2,300 service hours at Wheeling Hospital. Five of the hospital’s junior volunteers, Kaminski, Kosanovic, Lyle and Young, as well as Ashish Urval of the Linsly School, also received $500 scholarships from the Auxiliary West Virginia Hospital Association.
