Ohio Valley Farmers’ Market: Know your farmer, know your food

Photo Provided Vendors love to interact with guests at Ohio Valley Farmers’ Market.

BELLAIRE — The Ohio Valley Farmers’ Market is celebrating its mission statement from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 32nd Street in Bellaire.

The core belief of the market is to provide ways for people all over the valley to “Know Your Farmer. Know Your Food!” Founded in 1979, the Ohio Valley Farmers’ Market has long been a fixture in the valley. The market is open June through October at two times and locations: 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays at 32nd Street in Bellaire and 4-7 p.m. Thursdays at the Ohio Valley Mall parking lot in St. Clairsville. Both venues offer fresh vegetables and fruits and locally produced foods such as pastured meat, eggs, cheese, pickled veggies, baked goods, jams and honey. The market also features vendors selling a variety of handmade crafts, soaps and lotions.

The Market Tent will be giving away free balloons and OVFM pencils. Nearly 20 different vendors will be on hand selling their products. They are excited to share their stories about being part of OVFM and how their products are grown or made. For children, the Kids Corner tent is hosting a market-wide scavenger hunt, plus our Lil’ Farmers Club will meet at 10 a.m. Adding to the festivities, David Buckingham and Richard Kendle will provide live music, and will even give children a chance to play along with them on a few songs. Market Manager Lisa Buckingham said, “Saturday is a time for celebration! It is sure to be a wonderful morning at the market!”
