Martins Ferry High School graduates Class of 2018
MARTINS FERRY — Martins Ferry High School held its commencement service at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Tolbert Gymnasium.
Attending the commencement service was the Class of 1968. Clarence Hill, retired U.S. Navy captain, was the guest speaker representing the Class of 1968. Amanda Paige Jacob was named valedictorian, while Marcus Larenz Clark was named salutatorian.
Jacob is the daughter of Tim and Amy Jacob of Colerain. She earned a 4.870 grade point average. She was awarded the Ken Dennis Scholarship, the Albert A. Christ Scholarship, the Alumni Scholarship, the Forever Ferrian Award, Purple Rider Booster Club Athletic Award, and the Amanda Rosepapa Memorial Softball Scholarship. She was active in National Honor Society, MFHS Student Council and French club. She has been a member of the yearbook staff, Chy-Phy science club, and the OVAC Leadership Board. She is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Martins Ferry. She is a four-year letter-winner in volleyball and softball, and a two-year letter-winner in track. She is employed at the Twisted Cone and at Jacob & Sons Meats. She plans to attend Wheeling Jesuit University in the fall to major in exercise science and minor in psychology with the goal of becoming a physician’s assistant. She will be continuing her softball career there as well.
Clark is the son of Ryan and Heidi Clark of Colerain. He earned a 4.843 grade point average and has attended the Academic Awards Banquet every year since the fifth grade. At MFHS, he was a four-year letterman in cross country and track and a one-year letterman in basketball. He was active in the National Honor Society, Chy-Phy science club, yearbook staff, and Spanish club. He received several awards including the Renaissance Award, the Challenge Program Academic Excellence Award, the OVAC Academic All Conference Award, and the Ohio Division 2 Track and Cross Country Academic All-Conference Award. He works at West Texas Roadhouse and has volunteered in the Central Services department of Wheeling Hospital. Clark will attend Otterbein University in the fall, where he will pursue a degree in pre-medicine education and run cross country and track.
