JB Green Team announces annual cleanup schedule

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The JB Green Team has announced the 2019 schedule for the annual Belmont County Community Cleanup collections

Community Cleanups are sponsored by the JB Green Team in coordination with the Belmont County Township Trustees. All Community Clean-up collections are held on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Residents of Belmont and Jefferson counties are welcome to participate in any scheduled collection.

2019 brings some changes to the annual collections. Electronics and televisions will NOT be accepted this year at the community cleanups. A special collection for electronics only will be held Saturday, April 6 at the Belmont County Fairgrounds. Another important change bans oversize items such as hot tubs or boats; these items are no longer accepted at community collections.

Residents are invited to bring most old household junk, appliances, fixtures, furniture, lawn furniture and equipment, riding and climbing toys, carpeting, car batteries, household batteries, foam packing, mirrors, dishes, glassware, plastic buckets, trash cans, etc. All loose items should be boxed or bagged to help process everyone through the line in a timely manner.

Tire recycling is provided for standard size car and light truck tires only. No semi-truck, agricultural or industrial equipment tires. Tires are required to be free of heavy accumulations of water or dirt as this can seriously damage tire shredding equipment.

The following items will not be accepted at cleanup events: mattress or box springs; electronics/televisions; paints, liquids, fluorescent tubes, ballasts; insulation or other hazardous waste materials.

Other items not accepted at the community collections include: diapers, food waste, leaves, tree or grass cuttings, construction and demolition materials including insulation, bricks and cement blocks.

The JB Green Team reserves the right to refuse unacceptable items and items that create a health or safety hazard for collection workers. Window glass should be boxed or the edges taped.

A special residential Household Hazardous Waste collection will be held Saturday June 22 in the Ohio University Eastern parking lot and June 29 at the Ft. Steuben Mall. Proof of Belmont or Jefferson county residency is required.

Community cleanups take place during the national Keep America Beautiful — Great American Cleanup.
