Powhatan man dies in Ohio 148 crash

POWHATAN — A Powhatan man died in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.

At 12:15 a.m. Saturday, a red Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Michael J. Modra, 40, of Powhatan Point was traveling east on Ohio 148 when the vehicle went off the right side of the road after the driver over-corrected, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The vehicle then went left of center, off the left side of the road, striking a fence and several trees.

Modra was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the truck. He died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

The OSP believes possible alcohol and drug use may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation. It occurred near milepost 15 in Washington Township.
