District makes several personnel changes
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The St. Clairsville-Richland City School District approved numerous supplemental contracts and other personnel items at its recent monthly meeting in preparation for the start of the 2019-20 school year next month.
Supplementals for the following positions were approved — AM supervisor (Brett McLean, Tom Sliva); academic quiz team (Carrie Marko, Justin Sleutz); Close-Up adviser (Julia Maffett); Culture Club adviser (Maffett); color guard (Rebecca Schwertfeger); elementary grade level chairpersons (Heather Foster and Kristin Myser, PK; Laurie Davenport, K; Victoria McLean, 1; Josh Shutler, 2; Christian Goddard, 3; Loretta Roe, 4); French Club adviser (Nadja Wilson); and freshman class adviser (Gary Watt).
Also approved were — department chairpersons (Sara Myser, English; Wayne Berk, fine arts; Mark Bonar, math; Rachel Ochsenbine, science; Marko, special ed; Kevin Sacco, social studies); instrumental music director (Justin Schwertfeger); middle school grade level chairs (Kim Evick, 5; Eric Bush, 6; Heidi Mooney and Mindy Husek, 7; Sarah Steele, 8); middle school yearbook/newspaper, Husek; musical/drama director (Eric Trio, elementary; Berk, high school); National Honor Society (Courtney Rodak and Kody Skinner); PM supervisor (Trio, Gene Mozena, Jeff Vass); pep band (Justin Schwertfeger); Schi Shan adviser (Chelsea Maxwell); Spanish Club (Jim Drake); spelling bee (Beth Rushton and Carol Henderson-Drake); St. C Singers (Berk); musical/drama assistant director (Kristen Rateno); St. C Singers assistant director (Rateno); stage/jazz band director (Justin Schwertfeger); Student Action Committee (Sara Myser and Ann Jeffries); Student Council adviser (Jeffries and Christina Sirbaugh); vocal music director (Berk).
Pupil activity contracts were approved for — Cinda Weisgerber (Destination Imagination coordinator); Denise Skaggs (junior class adviser); Starkey (middle school musical/drama director); Lowell Perkins (Washington D.C. trip coordinator); Moriah Agnew (eighth grade girls basketball coach); Eric Gay (varsity football assistant coach) and John Jaskowiak (varsity softball head coach).
The board also approved the resignations of Brandon Miller, maintenance; and Jeffrey Stewart, special education aide.
In his remarks to the board, Superintendent Walt Skaggs reported new alarm and video surveillance systems were installed in the maintenance building. Also, the alarm system at the bus garage was updated. Numerous other infrastructure improvements were being done throughout the district, he added, including painting of the bathrooms and hallways at the elementary school.
Skaggs said the district received three grants from Gulfport Energy — $6,000 for flexible seating at the elementary; $5,000 for new microscopes in the sixth-grade science classroom and $2,150 for fifth-grade science supplies.
The following donations were accepted by the district during June — St. Clairsville Rotary Club (Stop the Bleed kits, $1,545; Destination Imagination, $500; Middle School Athletic Fund, $2,400; athletic department, $300; high school baseball, $500; high school softball, $500); Lifetouch (Elementary Principal Fund, $1,661.87); Jefferson-Belmont RSWA (Elementary Principal Fund, $88.50); Flying S Wings Inc. (Destination Imagination, $153.80); Your Cause (High School Principal Fund, $10); Kona Ice of the Mid-Ohio Valley LLC (Student Action Committee, $157.75); Red Devil Club (athletic department for track, baseball, $2,117.72); Milleson Insurance Agency (high school boys basketball, $100); Chipotle Mexican Grill (high school boys basketball, $170.16; high school volleyball, $240.45); Ohio Valley Vapor Station (football weight room account, $500).
The next regular monthly meeting will be at 7 a.m. Aug. 14 at the board office.
