UL School district seeks public’s input

MORRISTOWN — Union Local School District is seeking public input for the use of federal dollars for Titles I, I-D, II-A, IV-A, IDEA-B, and ECSE for the 2019-20 school year.

Title I funds are used to provide reading/math intervention for elementary students and professional development for staff.

Title II-A funds reduce class size and provide professional developmental activities to improve teacher quality.

Title IV-A provides funds for student support and academic enrichment.

The purpose of IDEA Part-B dollars is to help pay for the excess cost of providing special education and related services to children and youth with disabilities ages 3-21. Money may be used to provide supplementary aides and services in a regular class or other education setting to a child with a disability to meet that child’s unique needs as identified through their individualized education plan. Funds may also be used to support professional development activities to general and special education educators and families of children with disabilities.

The school district welcomes any suggestions or questions regarding the expenditure of these funds. Questions also may be directed by phone to Jayme Yonak, coordinator of Special Education/Federal Programs, at 740-782-1181, ext. 3918, or by mail at 66779 Belmont-Morristown Road, Belmont, Ohio 43718.

Anyone who knows of a child or youth, ages 3-21, who is handicapped or is suspected of having a handicapping condition, should call the above number.

Handicapping conditions, as defined in the Operating Standards for Ohio’s Schools Serving Children with Disabilities include: autism, cognitive disability, deaf-blindness, deafness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury and visual impairment.
