Accident claims life of Scio woman

CADIZ — Mary Taylor, 60, of Scio, was killed in a two-vehicle accident that happened about 11:45 a.m. Monday on U.S. 22, west of Cadiz, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Taylor was driving a 1998 Nissan pickup truck east on the road when police say she lost control of the vehicle. The pickup truck went off the right side of the road into a ditch, came back on the road and struck the rear tires of a tractor-trailer traveling in the opposite direction.

The vehicle rolled and Taylor was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the pickup truck, George Scotts, 55, of Scio, was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the 2009 International tractor-trailer, Treyvon Hickman, 24, of Lees Summit, Mo., was uninjured. The road was closed for several hours to allow for cleanup on the accident scene.

Police reported the accident remains under investigation. Taylor was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
