This image posted on Facebook by the Belmont County Emergency Management Agency shows a United Dairy truck on its side just north of the Martins Ferry city limits. According to Lt. Maurice Waddell of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around noon Thursday on Ohio 7 southbound at Belmont County Road 4, also known as Floral Valley. Waddell said the driver told investigators he fell asleep at the wheel. The truck traveled off the right side of the roadway, through the guardrail and overturned. Waddell said it was fortunate the vehicle did not go over the adjacent wall and into the creek below, noting it would have fallen quite a distance. Ohio 7 was closed for a time while crews worked to remove the truck. Waddell said the driver, whose identity was not released Thursday, was taken to Wheeling Hospital with non life-threatening injuries and was expected to be released that evening.
