Wheeling Hospital adds sports medicine specialist

WHEELING — Sports medicine specialist Dr. Raymond de Cuba, who has served as team physician for several professional and college teams, has joined the staff at Wheeling Hospital.

The Florida native earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology at Rollins College in Winter Park. De Cuba went on to earn a master’s degree in public health and a medical degree at the University of South Florida. His internship and residency in family medicine were served there, as was his fellowship in primary care sports medicine.

De Cuba has served in the medical tent of various athletic events in Florida, including two Ironman events and Disney marathons. He was team physician for several high school teams and events; the University of South Florida’s football and men’s soccer team and the university’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. In addition, he assisted the Toronto Blue Jays at spring training in Dunedin, Florida.

In 2015, de Cuba was honored for outstanding contribution to sports medicine at the University of South Florida.

He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

De Cuba’s office is located in Wheeling Hospital’s Tower 1, Suite 203.
