Yorkville police chase ends in Marietta

YORKVILLE — Sherman Michael Floyd Leasure, 18, of Bellaire reportedly led officers on a high-speed chase that spanned four counties Tuesday.

According to Yorkville Police officer T.J. Scott, the incident began when he noticed Leasure’s vehicle driving on Public Road in Yorkville with unreadable temporary tags. When Scott approached Leasure’s vehicle, Leasure allegedly sped onto Ohio 7 southbound.

Scott pursued Leasure in his cruiser at speeds from 80-100 mph and was assisted in the chase by the Martins Ferry Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The patrol finally stopped Leasure in Marietta, Ohio, by deploying spike strips on the road to puncture his front tires. After Leasure’s vehicle was disabled and stopped, Leasure reportedly led officers on a short foot pursuit into the woods before he was finally apprehended.

Scott said he apprehended two passengers at gunpoint who were in Leasure’s vehicle. One passenger was released and the other was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Scott said that individual was taken to the Washington County Jail in Marietta.

Leasure had a felony warrant, but Scott did not have further information on this.

Scott said Leasure will be charged in Jefferson County with fleeing and eluding.

Leasure was lodged in the Washington County Jail in Marietta on aggravated menacing charges.
