Gus “Squashcarver” Smithhisler carves a relief of the flag-raising at Iwo Jima on the surface of an enormous pumpkin at the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival on Friday. Based in central Ohio, he has been carving giant pumpkins for more than 17 years. He sculpts for many festivals, fairs, zoos and other entertainment venues.
