HealthWays, Inc. celebrates its 55th anniversary

WEIRTON — HealthWays’ humble beginnings date back to 1964 when answering the call from the people of Brooke and Hancock counties for behavioral health treatment.

The company has served as a quiet friend and neighbor silently helping to change the lives of those in the community for five decades. HealthWays realized its beginnings as a grassroots effort by the Hancock-Brooke Mental Health Society, which was formed in response to a vocalized need for mental health services in the area. Over the years the company has grown to a 160-employee organization with 10 locations in Hancock, Brooke and Ohio counties.

HealthWays’ mission is “To Foster Positive Human Growth by Providing Competent, Compassionate and Comprehensive Programs that Enhance the Lives of Those We Serve.” HealthWays’ main office is located at 501 Colliers Way in Weirton.

This site houses psychiatric, psychological and counseling services for children, adults and families as well as case management services for persons with a developmental disability or severe mental illness. Their nine other sites provide residential and day programming services to consumers with developmental disabilities.

It is important to the HealthWays Board and staff to be responsive to the ever changing needs of the community through the continuation of quality programming by licensed professionals and the creation of new programming to meet the needs of those they service.

One of their most recent projects has been in response to the identified increase of substance abuse in the area. To meet this need, HealthWays has opened a female residential treatment program in Beech Bottom.

HealthWays is excited to announce the relocation of their current Hancock County Opportunity Center location early next year to both meet increased consumer demands and offer additional services to developmentally disabled clients in Hancock and Brooke counties.

For an appointment or additional information about the programs and services HealthWays offers call 304-723-5440. HealthWays does offer 24-hour crisis services at 304-797-6000.

Upon calling simply ask for a crisis worker on call. Someone is always available to help.
