Multiple meth arrests at old Woodsfield school
WOODSFIELD — Four people arrested over two days at the former Woodsfield High School are facing drug charges after law enforcement reported seizing methamphetamines there.
According to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, investigators are awaiting analysis of the apparent drugs by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation before those arrested will face arraignment.
In the early afternoon of Jan. 14, Monroe County sheriff’s detectives along with the K-9 division, Monroe County road units and members of the Woodsfield Police Department executed a search warrant at 204 S. Paul St., also known as the former Woodsfield High School. During the execution of the warrant, officers reportedly recovered methamphetamines, prescription medications, drug paraphernalia, cash and a large amount of weapons.
Gordon Swartz, 45, of 204 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, was arrested on a felony warrant as a fugitive from justice. He also was charged with possession of methamphetamines, trafficking in drugs, attempted escape, carrying a concealed weapon, vehicular vandalism and permitting drug abuse.
Thomas Swartz, 23, of the same address was arrested for possession of methamphetamines, endangering children and failure to comply.
Cheryl Swartz, 44, of the same address, was arrested for possession of methamphetamines, permitting drug abuse, possession of marijuana and trafficking in drugs. They were all transported to the Monroe County Jail, where they are awaiting arraignment.
On Jan. 16, the sheriff’s office executed another search warrant at the former high school and seized about 18 grams of apparent methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. George Eric Barger, 45, of 408 McMechen St., Benwood, was arrested for possession of methamphetamines, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He was transported to the Monroe County Jail, where he also is awaiting arraignment.
