BELLAIRE — A high-speed chase through Belmont County ended with the arrest of two adults and four juveniles over the weekend.

Officers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol were led on a 17-minute chase early Saturday morning, said Trooper Michael Grant of the OSHP St. Clairsville Post. Around 1:20 a.m., an officer encountered a vehicle speeding on Ohio 149 between Neffs and Bellaire, he said.

“The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled,” he said. “The pursuit varied between 60 and 80 mph.”

While attempting to catch the vehicle, the officer struck a deer on Belmont County Road 5, damaging the cruiser.

Despite the accident, the officer continued on the chase and eventually caught up to the vehicle, which had crashed at the intersection of Ogilbee and Redstone roads in Jacobsburg, Washington Township.

Following the wreck, the occupants got out of the vehicle and ran from police, Grant said. The owner of the vehicle, who is a juvenile and was a passenger in the car, was injured in the wreck and made her way to a nearby home for assistance. The homeowner then alerted police. The juvenile was later taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Grant said the remaining suspects each were located at their residences and brought in for questioning. Four of the vehicle’s occupants were 16-year-old juveniles, while the other two were ages 19 and 20.

The OSHP is not yet releasing the names of those involved in the pursuit. All six of the suspects have been charged with felony fleeing and eluding, Grant said.

“The prosecutor’s office is reviewing the cases,” he said.

The incident remains under investigation by the OSHP.
