Heating assistance still available

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Community Action Commission of Belmont County is assisting income-eligible households with winter heating needs through March 31.

Eligible households, with less than a 10-day supply, may receive a one-time delivery of bulk fuel or propane up to $900. Utility customers may receive assistance up to $175 for regulated utilities and up to $750 for unregulated utilities to prevent disconnection of service, restore service or establish service.

Utility customers may also sign up for the Percentage of Income Payment Plan, which is a payment plan based on monthly income.

Income eligibility guidelines based on annual income and household size are as follows: (1) $18,735 (2) $25,365 (3) 31,995 (4) 38,625 (5) $45,255 (6) 51,885 (7) 58,515 (8) 65,145. For family units with more than eight members, add $6,630 for each additional member.

Staff is also available to electronically file State HEAP applications. Customers must apply in person at the HEAP office located at 155 W. Main St. in St. Clairsville. Two-hour free parking is available on Main Street.

The HEAP office opens at 8 a.m. Walk-ins are available starting at 8 a.m. and are seen between appointments. There is a limit of 10 walk-ins per day. Customers not able to be seen the same day are given a 30-day extension at the utility.

Special arrangements can be made for working customers and homebound, disabled individuals.

The following information is needed at the time of application: Income verification for the last 30 days for all household members, Social Security cards and birth certificates for each household member and both utility bills, regardless of status of service.
