Fish fry benefit for child postponed

Donations can still be made

BELLAIRE — A Bellaire Volunteer Fire Department fish fry to benefit a toddler scheduled to have brain surgery this summer has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns.

Bellaire VFD firefighter Raymond Penyak said the fish fry for Theodore “Teddy” Bruce, originally set to take place Friday, may be rescheduled at a later date.

“The event is postponed until a later date due to the virus. Due to health concerns of the people going and also out of concern to the people serving them, we do not want to be a cause of a cluster,” Penyak said.

Bruce was born with a condition called metopic craniosynostosis, which occurs in 1 in 3,000 children. When Bruce is about 15 months old, he is slated to have a brain surgery to help correct the condition. The surgery is expected to take place at UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh this June. He is the son of Dustin and Ashley Murphy Bruce.

Though the fish fry is canceled, people can still make donations to the “Teddy Bruce Account” at Belmont Savings Bank, attn: Teddy Bruce Account, 3301 Guernsey St., Bellaire, OH 43906.
