Day of Prayer events planned in the Ohio Valley

WHEELING — Faithful from across the country and the Ohio Valley will be celebrating the National Day of Prayer in one format or another today, saying prayers or reflecting during the coronavirus pandemic.

The National Day of Prayer will be observed in Wheeling at 6:30 p.m. on the outside steps at West Virginia Independence Hall, 16th and Market streets.

Dawn Noble, West Virginia National Day of Prayer state coordinator, again will lead the event, which will be brief but to the point. Due to the COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, anyone attending will be asked to abide by mandatory spacing, and voluntary masks are suggested.

“The Chrisagis Brothers and Jo Ann Jones will lead us in the national anthem and a few minutes of worship before we head to our cars,” Noble said. “A handout will be provided to guide you to prayer spots and topics.”

Noble is calling for today to be a day of fasting, prayer and repentance “as we lift our city, Wheeling, our state, Almost Heaven West Virginia, and our nation America the Beautiful to the Lord for His mercy.”

“It’s harvest time for God’s goodness and glory to be revealed throughout our nation and the world,” Noble said.

In Ohio, a Day of Prayer event will be livestreamed at noon from the Harbor of Hope Assembly of God church in St. Clairsville. The stream can be found at facebook.com/harborofhopeag.

Bethesda Christian Church will host a Day of Prayer events, too. Participants will meet at Bethesda’s clock tower outside the municipal building at noon, weather permitting. The program will be repeated at 7 p.m. for people who are at work and unable to attend the afternoon event.
