Main Street ramp onto Fort Henry Bridge closed until 2021

WHEELING — Motorists looking to merge onto Interstate 70 from Main Street will need to circle around for the next four months, as ongoing road work has closed the ramp onto Fort Henry Bridge.

The ramp closed late Monday evening and is expected to remain closed for 120 days — roughly until late January– according to Division of Highways District Engineer Tony Clark. The detour onto the bridge will follow the road down a block before looping around onto Market Street through 10th Street.

One silver lining, Clark said, is that the change in traffic pattern might clear up some confusion with drivers, who previously had to navigate past two stop signs as they merged onto the bridge, which will no longer be the case.

“Making everyone use one ramp should kind of help that situation out, too,” Clark said. “There’s some work they need to do on that ramp, so we are closing that one down.”
