WHEELING — Motorists can expect to experience some traffic pattern changes on National Road in the business district of Woodsdale over the next two weeks, as overnight road repairs are expected to begin tonight on that section of U.S. 40.

Some area residents who have noticed large flashing road signs posted along National Road in that area have expressed concerns about whether the work will apply to the I-70 Bridges Project local detour route near that area.

According to West Virginia Division of Highways District 6 Engineer Tony Clark, the project pertains to the section of National Road between W.Va. 88 and Fulton. Two-way traffic will be maintained in two lanes with flaggers from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m

He said that section of road, which was paved in 2016, is beginning to show some signs of road “failures” and the DOH is going to make some repairs and apply a sealant to the surface to “prolong the life of that pavement.”

“It’s a microsurfacing project … going through that area on (Route) 40,” West Virginia DOH District 6 Engineer Tony Clark explained. “There’s already been some (road) failures here and there throughout that (area), so they are going to repair those and seal up everything.”

Clark said the repair project is expected to last about two weeks, weather permitting, with the actual road work expected to take place during night-time hours. Clark said the DOH office is in the process of putting together a press release detailing the actual work dates and times.
