Salvation Army loads up food for seniors

Trucks from Belmont County Senior Services are loaded with food Wednesday. A half tractor-trailer load of produce is unloaded, to be distributed throughout the county. Several hundred seniors are served weekly. Belmont County Department of Job and Family Services Director Dwayne Pielech praised the agency’s partnership with the Salvation Army and the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, which he said has proven invaluable during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, when many seniors are homebound and unable to visit grocery stores. The food is donated through the food bank. Pielech said the senior center staff collects produce Wednesdays and meat Fridays. For more information, call senior services at 740-695-4142.
