BRIDGEPORT — The St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church’s annual turkey dinner will be held via carry-out option only due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Although members of the church are disappointed in not being able to hold the event in the school hall as in past years, they remain excited and optimistic about the event.

Dick Riley, member of the church and event organizer, said the 16th annual dinner will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the school hall entrance.

“Due to the coronavirus, the event will be carry-out only. Cars can just line up and we’ll bring the food out. People don’t even have to leave their vehicle,” he said.

Event volunteers will garner protective gear to ensure everyone’s safety.

“We will be wearing a mask and gloves when taking orders,” he said.

Tickets can be purchased at the door the day of the event. This year’s menu includes turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green beans, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, roll, butter and dessert. Dinners are $12 for adults and $8 for children under 10-years-old.

“All are welcome to attend,” Riley said.

Last year’s event was attended by around 400 people, Riley said.

“There’s usually around 400, 200 of which were take-out orders,” he said.

Event organizers are hoping for another successful dinner this year as well.

“This is the first time we’ve ever done the dinner like this (carry-out only), so hopefully there will be a good turn out,” he said.

Raffle tickets and a 50/50 drawing will be available for purchase during the event. The drawings will be held at 3 p.m. The winners need not be present, Riley said. The winners will be contacted once the drawings are complete.
