One dead in motorcycle/car crash

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol St. Clairsville post are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash reported late Tuesday at Ohio 149 near milepost 7 in Richland Township that left the rider, Michael Memasters, dead.

According to reports, the crash involved a 2010 Harley Davidson ridden by Lemasters, 54, of Powhatan Point and a 2006 Honda Pilot driven by Joseph Knight, 42, of Jacobsburg.

The preliminary investigation suggests Lemasters was heading north on Ohio 149 and Knight was driving south. Lemasters apparently crossed the center lines and into the southbound lane, striking Knight’s vehicle.

Lemasters was pronounced dead at the scene by the assistant coroner and was transported to the Belmont County morgue. Knight suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wheeling Hospital, treated and released.

Troopers indicate Lemasters was wearing a helmet and Knight was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The Cumberland Trail Fire District and Neffs Fire Department assisted on the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
