Man arrested following chase

WOODSFIELD — Officers arrested a man Tuesday afternoon in Monroe County after he led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit through multiple counties.

According to a social media post by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began around 3:20 p.m. in Washington County by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and eventually ended in Monroe County. The patrol was pursuing a white Chevy Cruz that had been reported stolen along Ohio 7 north of Fly, where the sheriff’s office and OSHP St. Clairsville Post then joined the pursuit.

The driver of the vehicle was reportedly driving erraticly and at high speeds throughout the chase, Monroe County Sheriff Charles Black Jr. said.

After the vehicle’s tires were spiked three times, it stopped along Ohio 7 just south of Long Ridge Road.

Brian Wade, 57, of West Virginia was arrested and taken into custody. Black said no city of residence is listed for Wade.

The vehicle was reported stolen from West Virginia in early December.

Wade is charged with felony fleeing and eluding, traffic infractions, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving stolen property. Wade was on probation at the time of his arrest and also has multiple warrants out of Ohio and West Virginia, Black said.

Monroe County detectives also obtained a search warrant for the vehicle to recover evidence concerning multiple burglaries and break-ins that recently occured in Monroe County and surrounding counties. Black said Wade is a suspect in a string of burglaries over the past few months including at the Clair Tavern and Grill in Clarington, which was broken into earlier this month.

“The detectives are working diligently on the case, making phone calls to several locations in West Virginia that we’re tracking back to places he broke into. It’s probably going to be a lengthy process,” he said.

Wade could face additional charges for the break-ins, Black said.
