OHHS Partners with OSU to bring Mobile Mammography to the region

Ohio Hills Health Services is pleased to partner with the Ohio State University Breast Health Connection Project, The James-The Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Ohio Department of Health to bring mobile mammography to Freeport, Quaker City and Woodsfield, Ohio during 2021.

Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a patient at Ohio Hills Health Services to participate. Area residents who are uninsured or underinsured and meet certain income guidelines may be eligible for a free mammogram. Most health insurances are also accepted.

The mobile mammography unit will be at the Freeport Family Health Center on May 4, at the Quaker City Family Health Center on May 11 and Nov. 24 and at the Monroe Family Health Center on April 6, July 1, Oct. 27 and Dec. 30.

“It is important for area women to have access to affordable mammograms,” said Heather Saffle, RN, BSN, Health Center Manager, Monroe Family Health Center. “We are pleased that the Ohio State University Breast Health Connection Project mobile unit is willing to come to our Health Centers. It is a great service for our community.”

Mammography is the most effective screening tool used today to find breast cancer in women. The American Cancer Society recommends monthly breast self-examinations, physician exams and annual mammograms after the age of 40 to detect breast cancer. However, the benefits of mammography vary by age. If you have questions regarding your need for a mammogram talk to your health care provider.

During the pandemic extra precautions will be taken to keep patients safe. Patients may be asked to register at a table outside of the mobile unit and to wait outside or in their car until their appointment. All surfaces will be disinfected between patients.

Early detection saves lives. If you have questions or to schedule an appointment, call Sherri Smith at 844-284-7465.
