Police searching for man accused of Cadiz store theft

CADIZ — Law enforcement apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in a theft that occurred early Monday at Tractor Supply in Cadiz.

A third suspect is still wanted for questioning.

Courtney Jenkins, 24, of Delray, West Virginia, and Brandon Sine, 37, of Martins Ferry were arrested shortly after the robbery took place Monday morning. They were apprehended during a traffic stop along U.S. 40 in St. Clairsville. Both suspects have been charged with theft.

Around 1:50 a.m. Monday, a small U-Haul box truck backed up to the Tractor Supply in Cadiz where go-kart vehicles are displayed and chained together. Video surveillance showed three suspects exiting the U-Haul and cutting a security cable to the vehicles, according to the Cadiz Police Department. Once the chain was broken, an alarm sounded, alerting law enforcement to the theft. Two of the suspects were seen on the footage loading a Coleman go-kart vehicle priced at $1,300 into the van before driving away.

Shortly after the theft occurred, police officers arrived on scene. After reviewing the surveillance footage, Cadiz Police Chief Ryan McCann said a BOLO, or be on the lookout, was issued for the U-Haul truck. Less than two hours after the crime occured, the St. Clairsville Police Department stopped a vehicle fitting that description on U.S. 40 and arrested two suspects. The third suspect, Steven Heslop, 28, of Wheeling allegedly fled on foot during the traffic stop. Heslop is wanted for questioning, McCann said.

McCann said officers recovered the stolen go-kart and returned it to the store.

“It was found in the back of the vehicle that was stopped in St. Clairsville. We were able to tow the vehicle back to Cadiz. We then obtained a search warrant and got into the vehicle where we found the go-kart,” he said.

Anyone with information on Heslop and his whereabouts is urged to call police at 740-942-8844.
