BARNESVILLE — Moxie on the Main, located at 125 E. Main St. in downtown Barnesville, is now offering clothing, accessories and some shoes, alongside its farmhouse-style painted vintage furniture.

The shop recently celebrated expanding its offerings with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Barnesville Area Chamber of Commerce. Owner Denise Kozak said her shop started out selling refurbished farmhouse-style furniture, but it has expanded into also selling boutique clothing and accessories in a range of sizes.

Kozak owns the 1895 building where her shop is located. She began renovating it three years ago. Now it provides the perfect backdrop for the vintage-styled items she offers.

Her furniture painting business started out as a hobby and then took off.

“One of the best things that I ever started was painting old, vintage furniture. My previous job consisted of 70-plus hours per week for 17 years and then to a job that was a normal 40 hours per week — so I had a lot of time on my hands,” she said.

“I started by painting an old buffet for our daughter’s vintage wedding. We used that for her cake table at the reception — and had tons of compliments on how it turned out. It went from that, to us chasing down buffets, vanities and unique pieces — traveling many miles — to paint and display.”

Kozak said she did her first “pop-up show” during the 2018 Barnesville Pumpkin Festival and sold every piece of furniture she had displayed.

“This brick and mortar building sells our furniture — when you walk in and see the exposed brick, the original tin ceilings and the original wood flooring, it just melts your soul. We have added some new lighting, new paint and decorated it with nothing but vintage pieces. We also added two dressing rooms for our customers to come and try our clothing,” she said.

Kozak noted she also paints other people’s furniture as well.
