Ferry shooting still under investigation

MARTINS FERRY — A case of shots being fired in the Hughes Avenue area with one home being struck by bullets still is under investigation by the Martins Ferry Police Department.

At about 2:30 a.m. Feb. 4, officers were dispatched to the area after someone reported hearing gunshots being fired.

Officers arrived on the scene within a minute of getting the call. No one was injured, but bullet holes were found on the exterior of a home located at 924 Hughes Ave.

Shell casings also were found on West Jefferson Street. People saw a man fleeing on foot following the shots being fired, but no one was found.

Martins Ferry Police Chief John McFarland said the case still is being investigated.

“No arrest has been made yet. We are still investigating the incident,” he said. “We believe it stemmed from an altercation that occurred at the residence earlier in the evening.”

McFarland declined to comment on whether drugs could have been a motivating factor in the shooting.

Those who may have more information related to this investigation can call the Martins Ferry Police Department at 740-633-2121.
