Local restaurant offers a family-friendly atmosphere

WOODSFIELD — The Traditions Restaurant has been a fixture in the Woodsfield community for nearly 20 years, serving fresh and homemade entrees to its customers.

Chris Hoff, restaurant owner, said the “family-style” eatery offers an assortment of homemade meals including appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees.

“It’s very family oriented. … A lot of our food is homemade — our soups are all homemade, sauces, coleslaw, bread and some secret recipes I learned from my mom and grandmother,” she said.

Hoff said she has incorporated many of her family’s meals that have been passed down through the generations into food she serves now at the restaurant, giving it a special and traditional touch.

The restaurant only serves fresh meats, which Hoff said she hand slices and marinades herself every day whether it be the beef tips, ribeye, pork chops or chicken.

Like many other restaurants, Hoff said it has been difficult to run a small business amid the coronavirus pandemic. She said it has not only been a struggle to find employees, but also a struggle to deal with restrictions such as limited capacity.

“You had to be closed down for a while, and now you can only have a portion of the capacity you did have. We have curtains up, and we’re trying to make the best of it with what we can,” she said.

Although it has been a struggle, she said the staff remains positive.

Hoff said the eatery continues to offer carryout options for those who prefer to eat off site. They also offer daily specials and soup of the day.

The eatery also contains a small lounge area and bar for those looking to unwind. However, Hoff said it remains a family-oriented place where everyone, including families with children, is welcome. She said the business is well known around the Ohio Valley and hopes to continue to serve customers a variety of good and homemade meals.

The restaurant is open from 11 am. to 8 pm. Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It is located at 113 South Main Street. A full menu can be found on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
