Traffic stop yields drug arrest in St. C.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — A traffic stop in St. Clairsville on Wednesday netted more than 2 ounces of methamphetamine.

Officers with the St. Clairsville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a tan Chevy SUV driven by John Huggins, 42, of Bellaire. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers found more than 58 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Also reportedly located in the vehicle were several cellophane bags, meth pipes, digital scales, a large stack of cash as well as other suspected drugs.

Based on the investigation, Huggins and his passenger, Michael Edgell, 31, of Flushing, were taken to the Belmont County Jail on felony drug possession, drug trafficking and other drug-related charges. Investigating officers believe Huggins and Edgell had picked up the drugs in another location and were transporting them into Belmont County to sell.

This case is still under investigation at this time.
