Second Saturdays start this week in St. C.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The city’s Main Street will kick off a series of Second Saturday events this weekend, following today’s Food Truck Friday.

St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce Director Wendy Anderson, organizing the event, said excitement is high and all are welcome in the coming months.

“And then we’ll have a Second Saturday in June, July and August, September and October,” she said. “The second Saturday of every month until October.”

Anderson said extensive participation will mark each event, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We have all-day events. We have a food truck, which is Mason Dixon BBQ. We have Jack’s Ice Cream,” she said. “We have D.J. Daner. He will be providing the music and he will be DJing downtown. We will have sidewalk sales. We will have crafts.”

The pandemic has been a sedentary time for many, so some forms of exercise will be on display as well.

“We’re going to start it all off at 10:30 a.m. with Nicole Snodgrass of Restore Yoga. She’s going to do standing yoga on the steps. Then at 11:30 a.m. we’re going to have Kids Wellness Workouts,” Anderson said, adding this is a chance to interest young people in forms of fitness, but there is no age limit.

“It’s standing yoga, so anybody can join in,” Anderson said.

“We’ll be doing some fun exercises for kids, to just get moving … We’ll get their parents involved, too, if they want to come,” Renee Storm of Restore Yoga and Fitness said, adding there will be lessons in fitness activities and mindfulness. “The importance of exercise at an early age is encouraged because they can carry it on throughout their lives.”

Music and entertainment will continue through the day, with area students performing.

“We’re going to have live cartoon characters from Capes and Tiaras. Then at noon we’re going to have the St. Clairsville High School color guard, they’re going to be performing. At 1 p.m. we’re going to have the St. Clairsville High School Jazz Band. Then at 2 p.m. we’re going to have the St. Clairsville High School Percussion Band.

“We have so many people committed to this event going forward all throughout until October. It is just amazing,” Anderson said.

Businesses such as Porterfield’s Drive Thru, Belmont Savings Bank, and Allegiance Homes will hold events, and the Belmont County Heritage Museum on the plaza is hosting speakers to discuss historical events.

“We have different businesses that are doing special events for the Second Saturday. … If you’re interested in doing anything, give us a call here at the office and we will discuss it,” Anderson said.

The chamber of commerce can be reached at 740-695-9623.

Anderson said this is only the beginning.

“Next month the Wheeling Symphony’s going to be here on the steps, and there’ll be more coming next month. We have a lot of people committed to doing this,” she said. “It gets the small businesses to open their doors, to do what they need to do in downtown St. Clairsville, in and around St. Clairsville.”

Businesses outside the area are welcome to participate.

“This is not just a St. Clairsville event. This can be done anywhere on second Saturdays, and what we suggest is if you do something, send us a picture and we will promote it. Whatever you do.

“All of this could not have happened without our premiere sponsor, which is EQT. We also received a grant from Belmont County Tourism. We’re eternally grateful,” Anderson said.

“Just come and have a good time and enjoy. It’s going to happen, rain or snow.”
