The Flower Gardens covers all occasions
BARNESVILLE — For more than 90 years The Flower Gardens of Barnesville has been helping Barnesville area residents with all their floral and gardening needs.
Shelley Rockwell, who purchased the business five years ago, said she previously worked as a horticulturist at her high school alma mater, Olney Friends School, before deciding to invest in the longtime shop. She believes her business excels at customer service.
“We take time with our customers and are available and make a point of making sure each person’s needs are being met,” she said.
The shop offers cut flower arrangements and silk arrangements for a variety of occasions including formals, funerals, weddings and more. It also sells indoor and outdoor plants.
The shop provides repotting services for those wanting new or larger containers for their flowers. Custom porch pots are also popular.
Rockwell said she has taught classes on making porch pots, wreaths, container gardens and how to make turtle succulents.
The Flower Gardens also offers floral subscription services. People can sign up for a monthly delivery and send it to a loved one in a nursing home, to someone’s home, their own home or as a thank you to a loved one’s caregiver.
Rockwell said her ownership of The Flower Gardens will celebrate its five-year anniversary on May 20.
Rockwell said people who need help nursing sick plants back to health can call her for advice or bring their plant into the shop, too.
The Flower Gardens is located at 242 S. Gardner St., Barnesville, which is the old Gibson feed mill. Its summer hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday; Saturdays by appointment; and closed Sundays.
Rockwell said she will be set up at the Ohio Valley Farmers’ Market at the Ohio Valley Mall parking lot from 4-7 p.m. May 20.
