CADIZ — A Scio man has been arrested for multiple charges of rape of young victims, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

Mike F. Carothers, 56, of Scio, formerly of Jewett, was taken into custody for the charges involving a young victim.

Sheriff Ronald “Joe” Myers said the victim, who is now 18 years old, came forward and alleged the incident first occurred when she was just 13 years old. The victim told detectives that she has lived with it for long enough. Myers said it takes a lot for a victim to come forward and the authorities commend her for doing so.

Carothers is being held at the Harrison County Jail, where he is awaiting arrangement.

The sheriff’s department encourages anyone else who has been a victim to come forward.
