Surrendered animals doing well

BELLAIRE — A dog and several cats that were surrendered recently to the Belmont County Animal Rescue League are beginning to perk up.

According to a social media post by the league, the dog, named Abe, and 12 cats are doing well at the facility.

Photos of the canine and felines show them looking happy and bright-eyed.

“Look who’s coming out of their shells. After hiding for a week, the kitties are enjoying all the love and attention from the staff.

“They have fresh, clean air and litter boxes and plenty of room to play,” the league noted.

BCARL still is looking for more volunteers to help socialize and play with animals. A volunteer form can be found on their website, Facebook or by calling 740-782-9712.

“Abe is a character. He loves going outside, playing with his new friends, and running around in the grass,” according to the league. “We’re sure he doesn’t love his new diet, but someday, when he can run as fast as his friends, he’ll thank us!”

The league is also seeking a foster family for the dog before he finds a permanent owner. Those interested can call 740-782-9712.

The animals were surrendered May 15 by a family who could not properly care for them, according to the league.

BCARL Director Howard Goldman said previously the league had been working with the pets’ owner so she could possibly keep the animals.

However, during the most recent visit it was discovered the animals were being kept in one room in conditions that became “deplorable.”

The dog had not been out in months because he was unable to go downstairs.
