Cadiz fire being probed

CADIZ — The Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department is investigating the cause of a house fire that occurred Tuesday afternoon on Lincoln Avenue.

Fire Chief John Vermillion said crews were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. after a neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from the second floor of the Cadiz residence.

Once on scene, firefighters determined the site of heavy smoke and found a small flame near the window. He said they were quickly able to extinguish the fire.

Vermillion said no one was at home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

He said the house only incurred minor damage due to the blaze.

The cause has not yet been determined.
