One new COVID death reported in Marshall County

The Marshall County Health Department announced one new COVID-19 death Tuesday afternoon, an 80-year-old man who was hospitalized at the time of his death.

The Marshall County Health Department announced three new positive and five new probable cases received between Monday and Tuesday. According to the Department of Health and Human Resources website, there have been 2,573 confirmed cases, 975 probable cases and 79 deaths in Marshall County since the pandemic began.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department announced 11 new cases of COVID-19 in Ohio County between July 6-19. The DHHR website shows 3,181 confirmed cases, 1.148 probable cases and 87 deaths since the pandemic began.

WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital’s off-site COVID testing center will close Friday July 30, after serving the community continually since March 2020. The drive-through center is located at the former Harmony House, next to Valley Professional Center South at the old OVMC.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 2, all pre-operative/pre-procedure COVID screenings will be done at the Surgical Center drive-through area at Wheeling Hospital from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Surgical Center is located at the back of the hospital near the former ER.

Symptomatic patients seeking COVID screenings should contact their medical provider. If they feel they have an emergency they should go to the hospital’s Emergency/Trauma Center.

The hospital has been conducting off-site COVID testing since March 18, 2020, first at Wheeling Park and now at its current location at the former OVMC. As of July 19, slightly more than 26,500 tests had been conducted at the site.
