Tokyo Hibachi: Serving big flavors in little building

Eatery also offers drive-through service

MARTINS FERRY — One of the city of Martins Ferry’s newest restaurants is located in a former Dairy Queen ice cream shop — but don’t let the small size of the building fool you. What it lacks in stature it makes up for in the big flavor of the dishes served there.

Tokyo Hibachi, located at 1220 S. Zane Highway, offers carryout and something many restaurants can’t boast about — a drive-through window.

The restaurant has been receiving rave reviews from fans on social media and in the public.

May Lin, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband Leo Lin, said they plan to start also offering sushi in August. She said they are happy for their success to date.

May Lin said their goal is to use quality ingredients to make good food sold at affordable prices. She noted her husband has been a chef for 17 years.

The eatery has a diverse menu. It offers Chinese-style dishes, such as the ever-popular General Tso’s chicken, several Japanese-style dishes, and the basics, aka sides, such as corn on the cob, potatoes, french fries and sausage, which pair well with many of their seafood options.

As its name implies it also has hibachi-style lunches including those served with vegetables, chicken, shrimp, steak and more.

There are also hibachi dinners featuring the popular steak, chicken and shrimp, along with salmon, tuna, calamari and even lobster tail. Both dinners and lunches are served with white or fried rice or noodles, salad or clear soup.

Another menu option is called the “hand catch seafood” that includes offerings such as crawfish, green mussels, scallops, calamari, shrimp, snow crab legs, lobster tail or king crab legs. The “catch” menu includes options people can choose such as cajun, garlic butter or lemon pepper flavoring to add. They can also choose how spicy the dish will be: mild, medium, hot or extra hot.

Other dishes include different udon noodles dishes, such as vegetable, chicken, beef or shrimp. They also serve lo mein noodles, Japanese fried rice, salad and hibachi-grilled shrimp and chicken salads, soups including vegetable dumpling, clear and miso. There are also chicken, shrimp, beef and vegetable udon noodle soups and yaki noodle soups.

Tokyo Hibachi also has a variety of appetizers including egg rolls, vegetable spring rolls, onion rings, crab rangoon, fire scallops, gyoza, chicken strips, fried chicken wings, spicy ranch chicken wings, shrimp tempura, fried calamari, beef negimaki and more.

In addition to its hibachi and Chinese foods, the eatery also sells special drinks such as bubble tea and fruit smoothies.

Tokyo Hibachi of Martins Ferry is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday and is closed Mondays. Hours of operation may differ on holidays.

Tokyo’s current special this month is 10 percent off orders.
