171st Monroe County Fair gets underway Aug. 23-28
WOODSFIELD — The Monroe County Fair will be celebrating its 171st year this Aug. 23-28 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds.
The fair book notes people who come to the fair this year will notice some new structures on site.
Last year’s fair was completely canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The first one you may see is at the main entrance to the fairgrounds. It’s the new OSU Extension office. Come into the fairgrounds and you will notice a new 4-H Educational Building that sits on the site of the old Henri Coulson Building,” wrote John Williams, president of the Monroe County Agricultural Society.
“Move on around the grounds and you will notice improvements to the 4-H Show Barn. None of this would have been possible without grants and funds acquired from the state of Ohio Department of Agriculture and local officials.”
The fair offers a variety of entertainment, exhibits, livestock shows, carnival rides and much more. Daily admission includes free rides and all pavilion and grandstand shows.
On Tuesday, seniors citizens age 60 and older and veterans enter for a reduced admission. On Friday, children 12 years old and younger enter at a reduced price and children age 2 and younger enter free of charge.
The fairgrounds open daily at 8 a.m. and close at midnight. Rides open at 4:30 p.m. Monday and at 3 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
