‘Meet the Author’ event set for Oct. 7

BEALLSVILLE — The Switzer Community Heritage Association Inc. is sponsoring a free event at 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Kindelberger Historic Barn, 50037 German Ridge Road, Beallsville.

The “Meet the Author” event will feature Robert Kroeger, author of the recently published “Historic Barns of Ohio,” which features a barn painting and essay from each of Ohio’s 88 counties. The local Kindelberger Historic Barn represents Monroe County.

Kroeger, author and artist, started the Ohio Barn Project in 2012 and, after thousands of miles of traveling, myriad hotel nights, and numerous fundraisers for historical societies and other nonprofits, completed the project in 2019 visiting the final three counties.

Almost all of the paintings are framed with wood from Ohio barns, many with siding from the barn painted.

The evening of the event, the author will be doing a demo nstration painting of the Kindelberger Barn.

Kroeger will give a short talk about his interest in barns and their history.

He will also be signing copies of his book, which members are selling.

Raffle tickets are being sold with first prize being the demo painting, and second and third prizes are each a copy of the book, “Historic Barns of Ohio.” The proceeds from the raffle will be split between the author and the Switzer Community Heritage Association Inc.

The event will appeal to anyone with an interest in the impasto painting technique used by Kroeger, his literary skills in his essays and their historical importance.

The Kindelberger Historic Barn was built 1883-1886 of sandstone quarried on the farm, which was purchased in 1846 from John Lapp and has remained in the ownership of a family member ever since that time.

The barn is truly a work of art and is still used for agricultural purposes to fulfill the wishes of its builder, Frederick Kindelberger Jr.
