Road worker struck by vehicle along I-70 project
WHEELING — A worker involved with the Interstate 70 reconstruction project in Elm Grove sustained injuries Tuesday morning after being struck by a moving vehicle.
Ohio County Emergency Management Agency Director Lou Vargo said he wasn’t certain of how the incident occurred, but that there was a call to Ohio County 911 that a worker was injured.
“The call came in at about 6:45 a.m. that he was struck at Exit 5 by a moving vehicle,” Vargo said. “The Wheeling Fire Department transported him to the hospital. I haven’t heard any more about his injuries.”
There is a need for caution when traveling through the highway construction areas, he said.
“This serves as a reminder that people need to be careful in construction areas,” he said. “This bridge project — we still have another year of it. People need to keep aware. There are changing traffic patterns.”
