BELLAIRE -- The Christmas season is kicking into full gear with events building up and plenty to attend. On Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. at the St. John Church in Bellaire will be hosting a lively event of choir singing and scripture readings for anyone wishing to attend. The event is open to the public and is free, according to Choir Director Joe DeGenova, who will be accompanied by Rosalind Fitch.

The title of the event is "Advent Lessons and Carols" and is being presented by the adult choir of St. John and St. Mary Parishes of Bellaire and Shadyside, respectively. Brent Kimball will be the guest singer and is the author of the song called "Bethlehem Waiting."

"It's a combination of reading, which pertains to the season of Advent and the Bible" with the singing of carols "relating to the coming of Christ," DeGenova said. The event is being described as a collection of Advent scripture readings and choral selections to be presented.

Narrators of the event will be Mary Ann Young and Annemarie Dimmick. Father Dan Heusel will give the invocation and Gospel reading. DeGenova said the idea was recommended by Father Heusel and is the first year for this event but the hope is for it to continue into the future.

"We hope to have it every year," DeGenova said. The wish is for people to "please come and prepare your hearts for the coming of the Christ Child."

The 20-member choir will follow the readings then followed by a carol that pertains to the readings plus a gospel about Advent, DeGenova said.
