Fatal motorcycle crash in Belmont County

SOMERSET TOWNSHIP — The St. Clairsville post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a motorcycle crash that killed one person on Ohio 800 in Somerset Township.

According to a patrol news release, at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday a 2003 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy operated by Quinn M. Kahrig, 40, of Jerusalem, Ohio, was traveling southbound when the motorcycle traveled off the left side of the road and struck a guardrail. Kahrig was pronounced dead at the scene by the Belmont County coroner.

A passenger, Kimberly N. Chapman, 29, was transported from the scene to WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol and speed are suspected to be factors.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Somerton Fire Department, Belmont County Coroner, Ohio Department of Transportation and Bill’s Towing assisted on scene.
