MARTINS FERRY — Martins Ferry City Schools District will graduate its Class of 2022 this weekend.

Graduation is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dave Bruney Football Complex with gates opening at 1 p.m. Parents, relatives and friends are welcome to attend the outdoor event. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Tolbert Gymnasium, where attendance will be limited to ticket-holders.

Trent Michael Lewis has been named valedictorian, and Alexander Jason Cunningham has been named salutatorian. Speakers include Lewis, who is also class president; Cunningham; Hunter Lude, third in class; and Peyton Hores, student council president. Attending the event will be members of the Class of 1972, celebrating 50 years since their commencement ceremony. Barry Roth will be the guest speaker representing the Class of 1972.

Lewis is the son of Jeremy and Chrissy Lewis. He has earned several accolades in academics and athletics. He was awarded the Albert Christ Scholarship, the Kenneth R. Dennis Scholarship, the Purple Rider Booster Club Memorial Award, the National Honor Society Award for scholarship, the Robert McNabb 2022 Valedictorian Award, and the Lions Club Scholarship. He is a four-year letter-winner in academics. In cross country and track, he is a four-year letterman, four-time All Buckeye-8 runner, one-time All-Times Leader Team runner, three-time cross country regional team qualifier, two-time track regional qualifier. He represented the Purple Riders on the OVAC Student-Athlete Board. He was also president of the National Honor Society. He is an active member of the First Christian Church of Martins Ferry. He will further his education at Muskingum University, where he plans to study engineering.

Cunningham is the son of Jason and Patricia Cunningham. He attended Ohio University Eastern as part of the College Credit Plus program. He will further his education at Ohio University, where he plans to study management.
